Step 1: Open the Tala App

Step 2: Select ‘your language:’ either Swahili or English.

Step 3: Select either ‘I’M New’‘Create account’ or ‘Sign In’.

Step 4: Enter your ‘M-Pesa number’.

Step 5: Enter ‘PIN’ for your number.

Step 6: Wait for the main Tala Mobile App Page to load and then proceed with the below steps.

Step 7: Select ‘Apply Now‘ and answer the questions that follow. 

Step 8: Finally, Select ‘SEND MY LOAN’, or if you want to cancel select ‘NO THANKS’.

As a result, you’ll be prompted on the payment schedule you selected and how much money will be due. From here all you’ll need to do is agree to the terms and schedule and Press confirm.

Question 3: Do you have outstanding loans?

Here, tala app for android wants to find out if you have any loans that you have taken. Answer accordingly, ‘yes’ if you have a loan or ‘no’ if you don’t have a loan.

Question 4: What kind of Personal/business expense is this?

What you need to do here is choose one option from the options Tala app will give you on the drop-down list. Tala gives you the following options to pick from; Emergency, medical expenses, education expenses, travel, special occasion, or general expenses.

Question 5: Please describe how you will use this loan in more detail?

Let’s say you selected a ‘travel’, elaborate on how you are going to use the loan when it is granted to you to pay for travel expenses. This will apply to any other option you will select.

For this question, answer accordingly, ‘yes’ or ‘no’

Repaying your tala loan

Tala loan offers you a 21-day loan and a 30-day loan to choose how to repay.  You can select the 21-day repayment schedule which allows you to pay back in three installments. The other option is the 30-day repayment schedule whereby you make the payment in one installment.

As a result of following the step-by-step guide, you will receive your loan on MPESA from Tala Loan. This will be followed by an SMS from 21991 confirming that you’ve received the money and how much you will need to repay.

Tala loan has an interest rate that ranges from 7% to 19% on each loan you borrow. This fee charged is known as a flat service fee. Compared to other mpesa loan lending platforms, it is on the lower end. It should be noted that the interest rate depends on the amount of money you borrow.

Tala offers two types of repayment depending on the period you chose to repay. Hence, tala offers loans with a 21 day or 30 days repayment period. 

30-day mpesa loan attracts a service fee (interest rate) of between 7% and 19%. If you apply for the 21-day loan, the service fee (interest rate) will range between 5% and 14%. Borrowing an mpesa loan for a shorter period on Tala attracts a lower interest rate. 

How much can one qualify to borrow on Tala app?

Tala loan limits start from a minimum of Ksh 250 up to a maximum of Ksh 30,000. The loan repayment period is either 21 and 30 days from the time you receive your money on your mpesa account.

How do I apply for a tala loan?

Apart from downloading the app on your phone, is there another way to get a tala loan!

For example, can you apply for a tala loan without a smartphone? No, you can’t. For now, you can only apply for a loan by downloading the app on your smartphone, registering for an account, and then applying for the loan.

What about applying for tala loan using ussd? Also, this is not possible for mpesa loans offered by tala. There is no tala ussd loan application service.

To get the tala loan app download, you will need to access it from the google play store. However, the app is only available for android phones. There is no tala download for iphone users on ios from the apple app store.
